From the Hand Exhibition

Welmont is pleased to announce From the Hand, a group exhibition featuring the work of Jinny Choi, Abby Cochran, Hanna Hentze, Morgan Smith, and Oliver Stephens on March 3rd- 4th, 2017. The opening reception will be on Friday, March 3rd from 6pm- 9pm and an informal artist talk will be on Saturday, March 4th from 11am- 1pm. Welmont is located at 1930, Montgomery St., Savannah, GA. Both events are free and open to the public.

From the Hand is a group show of work by the artists Jinny Choi, Abby Cochran, Hanna Hentze, Morgan Smith, and Oliver Stephens. Through a variety of art practices the concept of physical manipulation is explored. The works exemplify how painting, sculpture, and installation serve as powerful testaments to the human ability to create through physical manipulation of media. Artists Choi, Cochran, Hentze, Smith, and Stephens found unity in their shared passion for the tactile pleasure of creating with their hands.

Join us for a reception celebrating "Student Showcase," an annual exhibition of graduate and undergraduate student artwork. Begin or grow your collection with pieces from a wide variety of disciplines including painting, printmaking, photography and ceramics. Meet the artists in their studios and enjoy live music and refreshments. All artwork is available for purchase.

The work of notable SCAD alumna Jane Winfield (M.F.A., painting, 2012) and current SCAD student Bin Feng (M.F.A. photography) will also be featured. This reception is held in conjunction with the reception for "Oversaturated,"  an exhibition featuring a selection of bold and vibrant artworks by SCAD students, faculty and alumni curated by Ben Tollefson, assistant curator of SCAD exhibitions.

This event is free and open to the public.

This reception is part of deFINE ART 2017, held Feb. 21–24 at SCAD locations in Savannah and Atlanta, Georgia, and Hong Kong. DeFINE ART is an annual program of exhibitions, lectures, performances and public events that highlights emerging and established artists and visionaries.

Oversaturated

Oversaturated

Join a reception celebrating "Oversaturated," a group exhibition featuring paintings, photographs and sculptures by SCAD alumni, faculty and students on view Tuesday, Jan. 24, through Sunday, Feb. 26. The exhibition brings together bold, vibrant works and pays homage to Carlos Cruz-Diez — the deFINE ART 2017 honoree — and his long career of examining color as an autonomous reality.

Artists included in the exhibition use color in three distinct ways: formal, political and emotive. Formal works employ color as an essential compositional device, political artwork uses color to address social issues, and emotive color is exploited as a means of eliciting poignant responses in viewers.

"Oversaturated" is curated by Ben Tollefson, assistant curator of SCAD exhibitions.

Gallery hours:  Monday–Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The reception is free and open to the public. The exhibition is free with valid SCAD Card and open to the public by appointment. For more information, contact Hillary Eustis at heustis@scad.edu.
